The weather is finally warming up and soon you may have to switch over to your air conditioner. Along with setting up your annual air conditioner service with the team at Speedy Air Conditioning, there are some other items you can do to stay comfortable and save money this season.
During the transformation season in Naples, those far too few spring days, you may use ceiling fans to keep cozy. Did you know that running your ceiling fan along with your air conditioner might not only keep you more comfortable during the warmer days, but also save you on energy costs? In order to do that you have to make sure you’re taking advantage of ceiling fans and your air conditioning as you should be. Here’s a few things to keep in mind:
Raise Your Thermostat
This is where the cost savings can possibly come in. If you aren’t raising your thermostat you won’t be saving on your expenses. Raising your thermostat by a few degrees, in addition to running your ceiling fan, shouldn’t change your comfort level too much. For every degree you raise your temperature, you’re lessening the period of the “on” cycle of your air conditioner.
Adjust Air Direction
Ceiling fans have a clockwise and counterclockwise setting to adjust depending on the season. During the warmer months you’ll want to ensure the air is blowing down. You can stand underneath the fan to see if you feel a breeze. If you don’t, switch the direction. Ceiling fans do not actually lower the temperature of the air, but they make you feel cooler. It’s the wind chill effect. You’ll feel cooler than the temperature on the thermostat.
Turn Off Fan When You’re Not There
Treat your ceiling fan like you do lights, turn it off when leaving a room. If no one is in the room to feel the wind chill that a fan provides you’re wasting energy by operating your fan. Don’t forget, a fan doesn’t actually cool your air, it just moves your air.
